Dr. Iris Zalaudek is Board certified Dermatologist and since 2015 Associate Professor and Responsible for the Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer Research Unit at the Division of Dermatology of the Medical University of Graz; Austria. Her main research field is dermato-oncology including diagnosis using non-invasive skin imaging techniques as well as topical and systemic treatment of advanced skin cancer.
She has published more than 380 articles, of those 301 in international peer-review journals cited in Pubmed. Her combined publications have received an impact factor of 733 and a h-index value of 29 (by March 2014). She is frequently invited to lecture on her research topics nationally and internationally. In 2008, she was awarded the Best Researcher of the Medical University of Graz, Austria.
She has a broad international network of collaborations and has gained profound experiences in fund raising and leading working groups as well as in conducting research projects and studies.
Moreover, she has been principal or clinical investigator in several phase II or III trials in the area of dermato-oncology. At current, she is member of the management committee and work group leader of the EU_COST Action BM1205 with the title European Network for Skin Cancer Detection using Laser Imaging.
Besides her research activities, she is has particularly engaged in innovative teaching methods such as on-line or distant courses, videos or podcasts. She is co-director of the University Master of Science program entitled “Dermoscopy and Preventive Dermato-Oncology” and the University course “International Short Course of Dermoscopy” at the Medical University of Graz; Austria (www.medunigraz.at/dermoscopy) as well as Faculty Member and Tutor of the University distance course entitled “Diploma in Practical Dermatology – A Postgraduate Qualification in Dermatology” of the Cardiff University of Wales; UK (www.dermatology.org.uk).
Dr. Iris Zalaudek was invited as Foreign Research Fellow to the Dermatology Department of Second University of Naples, Italy (2004 to 2006). She was appointed as vice coordinator of the Melanoma Unit at the San Gallicano Institute in Rome, Italy (2009 to 2010) and of Skin Cancer Unit at the Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova – IRCCS in Reggio Emilia, Italy (2011 to 2013). In 2013 she acquired the qualification of an Ordinary Professor in Italy.
Dr. Zalaudek is Secretary elect of the International Dermoscopy Society (www.dermoscopy-ids.org) and of the recently founded World Melanoma Society (www.wmc.org) and Board Member of the European Academy of Dermato-Oncology (www.eado.org). Since 2013 she is Editor-in-chief of the journal Dermatology Practical & Conceptual. Since September 2014 she is elected Executive Member of the Coordinating Board of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Medical University of Graz.
